In 2025, a new partner, the Nitra Self-Governing Region, joined the project, while the Bratislava Self-Governing Region withdrew. Interdepartmental cooperation was initiated, including meetings of the Heating and Energy working group and the preparation of materials for other working groups. Air Quality Management Plans (AQMPs) were issued for the zones of the Nitra Region, Banská Bystrica Region, Košice Region, and the Košice agglomeration. The educational campaign “Something Is in the Air” was launched.

Emissions Inventory for the Selected Regions
The emission inventory for 2025 contains data from 2023. The data is divided by individual districts and pollutants - specifically nitrogen and sulfur oxides, ammonia, PM2.5 and total solid pollutants, as well as CO. In the sheets dedicated to individual pollutants, emissions are also divided by the sources from which they were emitted, namely energy and industry, waste, households, agriculture and transport.

Expert Workshop: Sustainable Mobility

As part of the event, the current edition of the European Mobility Week campaign was evaluated and the winners of the national competition for the European Mobility Week Award 2025 were announced.

The aim of the two-day seminar held in Demänovská Dolina was to provide a comprehensive overview of recent legislative changes in the field of air quality protection, ensure professional training for public administration staff to enable the effective exercise of their competences, promote the exchange of experience and a consistent interpretation of legal regulations among public authorities, and discuss the links between the new legislation and current challenges such as improving air quality, addressing pollution from local heating sources, and implementing the objectives of EU climate policy.

The year 2024 saw the continuation of project activities, the preparation of Air Quality Improvement Programmes and cooperation with regional partners. A key milestone was the preparation for the accession of the Nitra Self-Governing Region to the project. The dnesdycham.sk tools were expanded, educational and awareness-raising activities were carried out, and preparations progressed for the Obnov Dom Mini grant scheme and indicative air quality monitoring. The concept of the Task Force working group was also revised.

The fourth year of implementation successfully continued the established activities. In the area of preparing Air Quality Improvement Programs under the responsibility of district offices at the seat of regions, significant attention was devoted to methodological guidance. The results of a statistical survey focused on small sources of air pollution were processed. Cooperation with Kaufland Slovakia was initiated through events of the Kaufland Children’s Festival.

Following the easing of COVID-19 measures, educational and awareness-raising activities in the field were fully launched, including a study tour showcasing examples of good practice. In 2022, two new partners joined the project – the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and the civic association CEPTA. The web application dnesdycham.sk was expanded to include a mobile application for iOS and Android devices.

Launch of the mobile application "Dnes dýcham" ("Today I Breathe"), which aims to raise public awareness regarding air quality in Slovakia. The "Dnes dýcham" app displays air pollution levels using an indicator known as IKO—the Air Quality Index.

Methodological manual - Sustainable mobility - 2nd edition
A safe environment for bicycle transport is one of the pillars of creating a sustainable environment for cities and towns. This mainly concerns the creation of cycling infrastructure, as well as the general calming of traffic, the attractiveness of public space and climatic well-being. The goal of this manual is to inspire Slovak cities and towns to take actions and measures that will contribute to the development of sustainable urban mobility. The manual is divided into chapters, which are linked to the development of attractive places with healthy air. Good solutions from Slovakia and the surrounding area are presented in this manual.

In 2021, the first conference Effective Air Quality Management was held, with participation from representatives of state administration and local governments. Expertise in air protection was strengthened through cooperation with established institutions and events (Daphne – GLOBE Slovakia, TESCO STORES, Pohoda, etc.). Informational materials were distributed focusing on regional air quality, proper heating practices, and health impacts.

A report analysing different scenarios for low-stack emission abatement and energy efficiency improvement in the selected regions by 2030
The report analyses the condition of the housing stock in Slovakia, its energy performance and the potential for renovating family houses by 2030, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption. It also assesses the impact of household heating methods on air quality, particularly the significant contribution of solid fuel combustion to particulate matter emissions, and highlights the need for high-quality, professionally implemented building renovations.

This report contains cross-section of policies of Poland, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in relation to air protection and air quality, analysis of available legislation in the field of waste incineration, different approaches to domestic heating control used in the Czech Republic and Poland, rRecommendations for amending legislation and recommendations for domestic heating - best practices for maintenance, control, emission reduction but also financial costs for heating.

Emissions inventory regions
This report describes the methodology and results of the regional disaggregation of data of reported emissions of 5 air pollutants NOx, SOx, NH3, PM2,5, TSP and CO in the Slovak Republic in the year 2019. Emissions from large and medium sources were disaggregated using NEIS database which contains information about air pollutants from every operator of such source in Slovakia.

The LIFE IP – Air Quality Improvement project was launched on 1 January 2020. The first year focused primarily on building the foundations for its operation. Recruitment of key staff and team formation took place gradually, alongside the preparation of strategies and plans. Over the course of the year, the first measures began to be progressively implemented and internal processes were established to support the project’s further development.

Methodological manual - Sustainable mobility - 1st edition
The publication aims to provide a concise overview of the fundamental principles of sustainable mobility planning in Slovakia, drawing upon documents developed by ELTIS (the European Platform on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans) and recommended by the European Commission. It also seeks to showcase examples of good practice—specifically "quick wins"—that have contributed to the advancement of sustainable mobility and serve as models for other cities to follow.

Web application
The web application www.dnesdycham.sk provides users with information about the current air quality using a map. Data from the National Air Quality Monitoring Network, operated by the SHMI, are converted in the application into an air quality index. The purpose of the index is to provide a clear and comprehensive overview of the state of air quality through a color-coded and descriptive scale.
