France gives space to sustainable mobility
06. 01. 2022 Mobility
From March 1, 2022, France will make it mandatory to include sustainable mobility messages in car advertisements. In order to reduce emissions, the country is using the same concept as in the fight against unhealthy eating, where health recommendations are mandatory in advertising messages.
More movement, fewer emissions. The Ministry for the Ecological Transition in France has ordered advertisers of motor vehicles to include messages in the interest of developing sustainable mobility from March 1, 2022 - "For short distances, prefer walking or cycling.", "Consider shared rides.", or "Use public transport every day.".
According to Minister Barbara Pompili, the aim is not to make drivers feel guilty, but to prevent them from relying on private car transport as the only way to get from point A to point B. Especially when it comes to everyday car use and routes shorter than 5 kilometres.
Following the example of energy labels, France will also introduce an obligation for car manufacturers to state the emission class of vehicles in advertising materials. This will also be displayed simply using an alphabetical and colour scale.
If the advertiser fails to comply with the obligation, the authorities will first warn them. If no correction is made, the advertiser risks a fine of up to 50,000 euros for each advertisement published without the mandatory message.
